What Does the Future Sound Like?
A downloadable worksheet
This worksheet was created for a panel of the same name at PodTales 2019 by me, the moderator. Instead of surveying the panelists with questions and leaving Q&A until the end, this panel was run by distributing the worksheet to panelists and audience alike, and working through each step collectively (similar to a classroom exercise). The intent was to provoke joyful and thoughtful critical and artistic discussion about world-building with sound, which is often very difficult to convey verbally, as well as remove the traditional top-down dynamic of a craft panel. We ended up talking about everything from the power of absent sounds (languages, animals, etc) to the simple pleasure of vacuum tubes powering up.
The panel was a great success and received a lot of positive feedback, so I decided to post it here for others to use, as well as to post a public record of my work as a panelist, facilitator, and teacher. It can be easily adapted to apply to almost any field of design.

I like this. It’s a very interesting prompt for worldbuilding. I’d love to see what others wrote to it.
